Training for healthcare professionals

Expert certification to help you stay ahead in your healthcare career.
Basic Life Support (BLS)

Basic Life Support (BLS) is the foundational course for healthcare professionals and trained first responders who provide care to patients in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings. BLS is the cornerstone program for healthcare professionals.

In this course, you will learn the fundamental skills of high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for victims of all ages. You will practice delivering these skills as a single rescuer and as a member of a multi-rescuer team.

The skills you learn in BLS will enable you to:

  • Recognize a cardiac arrest
  • Activate the emergency response system early
  • Respond quickly and confidently
  • Perform high-quality single-rescuer CPR and multi-rescuer team CPR.

This course will ensure people in cardiac arrest have the best chance of survival.

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

The premier advanced resuscitation program designed for healthcare providers to improve outcomes with adult patients experiencing a cardiovascular emergency.

You will be able to practise and train in dynamic role-playing situations that mirror real life and will help you in your role as a healthcare provider. You will be introduced to a wide range of life-threatening, all-hands-on-deck scenarios that involve systems of care, immediate post-cardiac arrest care, acute dysrhythmia, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes.

The goal is to strengthen your ability to communicate and work effectively as a critical member of a team.

ACLS Certification is valid for 2 years.

Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS)

The Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS) Provider course is an intermediary pediatric skills course that builds on BLS concepts and can be a stepping stone towards certification in pediatric advanced life support (PALS).

PEARS equips healthcare providers who periodically care for pediatric patients with foundational skills to participate in the initial management of respiratory and shock emergencies, and cardiopulmonary arrest. PEARS is designed for healthcare providers and first responders who provide care to patients in a wide variety of settings, including rural health centres, schools, or large urban health centres with diverse ranges in scope of practice among staff.

Active case-based instruction will be used to teach students to provide appropriate lifesaving interventions within the initial minutes after response until the child is transferred to advanced life support care.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
